‘Punare’ is a growing women’s self help group from Drass, facilitated by the Himalayan Brown Bear Trust, who have been making felt toys since 2023. Every year, the group grows as women from different villages in Drass are trained. The wool is sourced from local sheep of and the women have been using their time to create the wildlife that inhabits their valley.
By creating an alternative channel of income that stems from the presence of Himalayan brown bears, we hope to encourage active local participants in conservation. All of the proceeds go directly to them because every stitch is woven with purpose. These toys become ambassadors of harmony between humans and nature.
