Human-bear conflict is an acute issue in this region and we have been constantly experimenting with various mitigation measures such as wildlife deterrent lights to address the issue in the short run.
We believe that it is only through continuous sensitisation and awareness amongst the local community will we be able to instil a sense of pride and ownership amongst them about their natural heritage. We focus on conducting many such workshops and programs mainly for the younger generation including school children and the youth.
Through providing avenues for livelihood and income, our aim to change the perception of the local community towards the bears as an asset rather than a liability. We are providing upskilling training to the local men and women as nature guides, homestay owners and in handicraft products
Based on our extensive on-ground knowledge we advise the local administration to influence policy and regulations for bear conservation. We also continuously share data and insights with researchers and wildlife department through field reports.
